River of Light 2026 closes after illuminating Liverpool

River of Light 2026 has concluded in Liverpool after transforming the city centre and waterfront with illuminated artworks. The free annual event featured 13 installations across locations including Pier Head, Exchange Flags, Royal Albert Dock and Liverpool ONE.

Extended hours for the final weekend

Earlier in the week, organisers confirmed the event would open for an extra hour on Thursday, Friday and Saturday after receiving an "incredible response" to this year's edition. Visit Liverpool announced the change in a social media post, stating the installations would be open from 4pm to 9pm instead of the original 5pm to 9pm.

New locations and partnerships

This year, the festival expanded into new areas of the city, with Culture Liverpool partnering with Liverpool Accommodation BID to place artworks beyond the waterfront. Visitors were able to explore the installations after dark across the city centre.

Photographs from the closing night captured crowds enjoying the final evening of River of Light 2026.
