Newcastle's open-air ice rink returns to Times Square this weekend with a special £10 launch offer, ahead of a festive programme that includes themed skating sessions from ABBA to pyjama nights.
Rink opens with £10 weekend offer
The annual festive attraction from Life Science Centre will be back on Saturday, November 7, with the £10 sessions available for the opening weekend only. After that, standard ticket prices apply.
Made up of real ice, the rink returns to its usual spot outside Life Science Centre and welcomes skaters of all ages and abilities. One-hour slots, which include around 15 minutes to fix skates, can be booked throughout the Christmas season and beyond, right up to January 3.
Themed skate nights and relaxed sessions
The themed programme begins with Skatin' to Nashville on November 13, featuring country music hits, followed by The Art of Skating event on November 15, which will play tunes from Olivia Dean, who recently performed in Newcastle as a Mercury Awards nominee. ABBA Cold: Greatest Hits on Ice takes place on November 19, and Toon Tunes on Ice on November 20 offers a chance to wear black and white and sing Geordie songs.
Pyjama Skate sessions are scheduled for November 22 and 29, described by the centre as a 'cosy night of festive fun in your jim jams', with hot chocolate included and teddy bears welcome. Relaxed skating sessions, in a calm and quiet environment without music or lights and with fewer visitors, will be held at 10am on Sunday, November 15, December 3 and January 3.
Ticket prices and booking details
After the opening weekend, skating costs £15.75 for adults, £14.50 for ages 17 or under, and £15 for over-60s and students. A family ticket for four, with a maximum of two adults, is available for £49.50, and carers can attend for free with proof. Separate ticket prices apply to the rink's Christmas Eve sessions.
