An Antiques Roadshow guest was left blown away after discovering the true value of a charity shop item. The hit BBC show returned for another episode on Sunday (September 27) with Fiona Bruce back at the helm.
For this week's instalment, the show paid a visit to Souter Lighthouse in Tyne and Wear. Members of the public were quick to show off their prized possessions to be valued by experts, but things took a dramatic turn when a guest brought in a charity shop item.
Charity shop find valued at £1,500
Expert Steven Moore examined the object, described as "a small object of devotion with the Holy Family." The guest explained that it actually belongs to a friend in Sydney.
"She found it in an ox shop, a charity shop. Paid eight Australian dollars for it, and she said it's been sitting in her top drawer for the last 20 years, so we just want to know a little bit more about it," the guest said.
Late 17th century enamel piece
Steven revealed that the item was made from enamel and "actually got quite a bit of age to it." He explained: "This states to the late 17th century." The guest was stunned and gasped as she said: "Oh, my God. Seriously!"
Steven said: "And it's in your friend's drawer?" in which the guest agreed. Steven then shared: "Well, if this was to come to the market, in Britain, it would can evaluation of 1,500 pounds. So it's 3,000 Australian dollars."
Guest 'blown away' by valuation
The guest was floored and declared: "Oh. Oh, my God. That's fantastic. My friend will be delighted!" Steven said: "Tell her it's not going in the drawer," in which the guest said: "Absolutely!"
The guest then added: "I am blown away. It's so fantastic. I think my friend is going to be so delighted. She's, you know, I had this thing in her drawer for 20 years, so it's amazing!"
