Paul Smith's Denis the Menace Collection Draws Mixed Reactions

Designer Paul Smith has launched a new fashion collection inspired by Denis the Menace, the legendary Beano character. The eight-piece range includes tote bags, mohair hats, scarves, and a red and black Denis-themed striped jumper priced at £340.

A graphic t-shirt costs £75, while a comic strip print tote bag is priced at £250. Smith said the collection was inspired by Dennis the Menace being one of the original punks and “brings together Beano's unmistakable artwork with our own playful design details”.

Fan Reactions

A post on the designer’s Facebook page read: “Paul joins Dennis and Minnie in a special edition of Beano, a childhood love of his, to add a bit of Ding Dong to their uniforms.” Fans can get a free special edition comic with every order.

However, reactions were mixed. One fan raged: “Hard pass. Not this time.” Another asked: “So, he ‘designed’ what? The price?” Someone else joked: “To be fair, I consider 340 quid for a jumper highly imaginative.”

Collection Pricing

A third quipped: “If anyone would like to purchase me the Paul Smith Beano sweater, please feel free! It’s only £340.” A red and black stripe scarf costs £195, while a beanie hat is priced at £100. Even a pair of striped socks costs £35.
