Reality TV mogul Kim Kardashian has enlisted her eldest child, North West, to model for her multi-billion dollar shapewear and loungewear brand, SKIMS. The 12-year-old features prominently in the new holiday campaign, marking a special family collaboration for the highly anticipated seasonal collection.
A Festive Family Affair
The campaign photographs show North West wearing a cosy pyjama set, perfectly capturing the holiday spirit. The shoot took place in a dining room lavishly decorated for Christmas, creating a warm and festive backdrop. North sported long blue-tinted braids and a personalised nameplate necklace for the occasion. In a departure from her recent playful style, the budding model did not wear the fake tattoos and piercings that sparked online commentary last month, though she did appear to have a light touch of makeup for her professional modelling debut in this campaign.
Behind the Campaign and Model Pay
This isn't North's first foray into the fashion world. She made her runway debut at just five years old, appeared in a music video with her father, Kanye West, and was featured in Vogue as a baby. Her last modelling gig for SKIMS was back in 2020 alongside her mother and sister, Chicago. The new campaign is for SKIMS' collaboration with the fashion label Cactus Plant Flea Market, set for release on November 20.
While model pay for SKIMS can vary, recent casting calls for national commercial work have offered around $6,500 per project. For minors like North, legal protections are in place. Child models must be paid, and in states like California and New York, a portion of their earnings must be placed into a trust account until they come of age.
Kim Kardashian's Personal Touch
Kim Kardashian expressed her delight at having her daughter involved. She shared, "Having North in this campaign makes it really special for me; she brings so much personality to the pieces." She also praised the collaboration, stating, "Our collaboration with CPFM brings a fresh, unexpected twist to holiday loungewear, with pieces that are iconic, playful, and expressive."
The businesswoman further promoted the campaign on her Instagram, posting a video of North twirling her hair and declaring, "Everybody is wearing SKIMS." The post received approval from family members Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, as well as friend Lauren Sanchez. The holiday ad also features other personalities, including rapper Ken Carson and singers Mariah the Scientist and Beabadoobee.
