The Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, turned heads during her and Prince William's royal tour of India and Bhutan with her elegant braided updo. The 34-year-old royal wore the hairstyle when she met the Prime Minister of India and during a visit to Pan Bari Village.
While the 'do may look complicated, celebrity hairstylist Sheenon Olson, creative director at ATMA Beauty in Miami, shared a step-by-step guide to achieving the look without visiting a salon.
First, part your hair, including any long bangs. Then split the hair down the middle and French braid both sides from just behind the fringe to the nape of the neck. Once braided, add a powder such as Expanda Dust for grip and gently pull the braids apart for a loose, deconstructed appearance.
Next, position the two braids into a low bun using bobby pins. Drop the fringe, split it at the part, twist each strand, and join them behind the head, securing with two bobby pins in an X shape. Finish with light hairspray for a royal-inspired look.
