Dior's Floral Fantasy: Anderson's Monet-Inspired Debut Collection

At the Christian Dior show in Paris yesterday, Jonathan Anderson placed a bold bet on lilies as a lucrative design motif, drawing direct inspiration from the iconic French artist Claude Monet. This marked the Northern Irish-born designer's inaugural autumn/winter collection for Dior since his appointment as creative director of the LVMH-owned fashion house in 2025.

A Stunning Backdrop and Floral Themes

Set against the breathtaking scenery of the Jardin des Tuileries, with a pond adorned by tranquil water lilies—Monet's most frequently painted flower—models gracefully walked the catwalk in a series of floral ensembles that mirrored the spring-like weather. The collection was infused with a pervasive floral theme, featuring elements such as frothy tulle mini-skirts with hems designed to resemble petals blooming under the sun.

Anderson reimagined the classic Dior Bar jacket by altering its proportions, notably shortening the waist and incorporating dramatic peplums for a contemporary twist. This creative approach highlighted his vision for blending tradition with innovation.

Celebrity Attendees and Notable Appearances

The event attracted a star-studded front row, including actress Anya Taylor-Joy, aged 29, who wore a pink moire silk dress fresh from the catwalk. She was accompanied by model Alexa Chung, singer Willow Smith, actresses Isabelle Adjani and Charlize Theron, and Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin.

Adding to the glamour was newly appointed Dior brand ambassador, British actress Florence Hunt, 19, known for her role as Hyacinth Bridgerton in the popular Netflix series. Another highlight was the second catwalk appearance for Dior by Sunday Rose Kidman, 17, daughter of actress Nicole Kidman, who wore a textured black jacket, an abstract lily-print draped skirt, and pink T-bar sandals decorated with roses.

Contrasting Styles at Paris Fashion Week

While Anderson focused on Dior's Bar jacket, Anthony Vaccarello centered his YSL show on the Smoking jacket, showcasing brown as a dominant color for the upcoming season. The YSL event was witnessed by actresses Michelle Pfeiffer, Zoe Kravitz, Olivia Wilde, and Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, along with British models Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Iris Law, and Lila Moss.

Notably, Lila's mother, Kate Moss, aged 52 and a longstanding brand ambassador, made her first appearance on the Paris Fashion Week front row after recently closing the Gucci show in Milan. This juxtaposition of design philosophies underscored the diverse creative directions shaping the fashion landscape.
