The granddaughter of the late British fashion legend Dame Vivienne Westwood has shared a poignant social media tribute to mark three years since her grandmother's passing.
An Emotional Social Media Post
Cora Corre, who once modelled in her grandmother's iconic shows, posted a series of photographs of Dame Vivienne on Instagram. In a heartfelt caption, she expressed the enduring sense of loss and reflection she feels. "3 years of missing you, wondering what you’d say, what you’d think of the world that’s only increasingly hardened but also softened with good people too," Cora wrote.
She continued, emphasising her grandmother's unwavering principles: "One thing I know to be true is you’d never waiver from your morals, heart and good intentions and that I will always look forward with whilst also looking back, missing and cherishing every single part of you."
Fans and Followers Share Their Memories
The post quickly attracted an outpouring of emotion from Dame Vivienne's admirers. While many responded with heart emojis, others shared personal stories. One fan recalled attempting to hand-deliver a copy of their Master's thesis, dedicated to Westwood's work, during Paris Fashion Week in September 2022. "Since it wasn't possible, I mailed it to her later. I’ve always wondered if she ever got a chance to see it..." the fan commented.
Another follower simply stated, "Truly an icon on all fronts, we miss you!" highlighting the designer's lasting impact beyond fashion.
Remembering a Fashion and Activist Icon
Dame Vivienne Westwood died peacefully at her home in Clapham, South London, in December 2022, at the age of 81. She was surrounded by her family. Her fashion house announced the news, stating, "The world needs people like Vivienne to make a change for the better."
Cora's tribute continues a tradition of honouring her grandmother's legacy. On the first anniversary, she used the platform to call on others to continue Vivienne's activist work. "Vivienne used her platform to continuously challenge the injustice in the world," Cora wrote at the time. She urged people to "share your stage, shed light on the issues and speak up for the people that don’t have a voice…and let Vivienne’s fight continue through you."
The post concluded with a powerful quote from Dame Vivienne herself: "'This is a war for the very existence of the human race. And that of the planet. The most important weapon we have is public opinion. Become a freedom fighter.'"
Renowned for her pioneering punk and new wave designs, Dame Vivienne was equally famous for her passionate political and environmental activism, frequently challenging government policies throughout the 1980s and beyond.
