Aubrey Plaza Makes Stylish Appearance at New York Fashion Week Amid Personal Struggles
Aubrey Plaza attended the Khaite Fall/Winter 2026 fashion show during New York Fashion Week on Saturday, showcasing a sophisticated look while navigating personal grief. The 41-year-old actress, whose husband Jeff Baena died by suicide in January 2025, wore a black mini dress layered under a thigh-grazing leather jacket. She completed the outfit with sheer black tights and sleek leather boots, accessorizing with bold gold hoop earrings and two delicate layered necklaces.
Plaza styled her thick, glossy brunette hair in natural bouncy curls that cascaded past her shoulders. Her makeup was soft and elegant, highlighting her brown eyes and featuring a brick-toned matte lipstick. This appearance comes just over a year after Baena's body was discovered at age 47. According to an LA County Medical Examiner's autopsy report obtained by DailyMail.com, Plaza and the screenwriter had been separated since September 2024, and she was living in New York when he was found in Los Angeles on January 3.
Reflections on Grief and Moving Forward
In August of last year, the Parks and Recreation star opened up about her emotional journey while appearing on former co-star Amy Poehler's podcast Good Hang. Plaza shared, 'Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you. Overall, I'm here and I'm functioning. I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I'm okay, but it's like a daily struggle.' She elaborated further, describing her grief as a constant presence: 'At all times there's like a giant ocean of awfulness, that's like right there and I can see it... Sometimes I just want to dive into it, and just like be in it. Then sometimes I just look at it, and sometimes I try to get away from it. But, it's always there.'
Star-Studded Guest List at the Khaite Show
The fashion event attracted a host of other celebrities, each bringing their unique style to the runway. Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki, 35, wore a modest ankle-length velvet dress paired with sheer black tights and pointed-toe heels. Her blonde hair was parted on the side and styled in textured waves that fell over her collarbone. Debicki, who won an Emmy in September 2024 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown, added a touch of elegance to the affair.
Actress Cristin Milioti, 40, arrived in a sleek black ensemble featuring wide-leg trousers and pointed-toe heels, topped with a fur-collared bomber jacket. Grace Gummer, 39, daughter of Meryl Streep, looked chic and glamorous in a black leather trench coat and sunglasses, wearing a structural high-neck gray dress with her dark hair slicked back into a low updo and pointed-toe black heels. Her younger sister Louisa Jacobson, 34, also attended, modeling wide-leg black leather pants and a structured olive green coat.
British actress Gemma Chan, 43, adhered to the dress code in a sleeveless black dress, teamed with heeled black leather boots and onyx sunglasses. Her lustrous dark hair was styled in a silky blowout by Ben Skervin. Actor Christopher Abbott, 40, sported a casual yet sharp look with a black sweater, bomber jacket, and gray trousers, finished with black footwear. He wore a mustache and had his dark hair shaved on the sides with longer length on top.
The Khaite show proved to be a gathering of fashion-forward celebrities, blending high-style presentations with poignant personal narratives. Plaza's presence highlighted both her resilience and the ongoing challenges of coping with loss, while the diverse array of guests underscored the event's appeal across the entertainment industry.
