ITV is set to broadcast a deeply unsettling documentary tonight as part of its anthology series, focusing on the tragic murder of a young woman whose body was discovered inside a suitcase.
True Crime Presents: Murder at the Grand Canal
The episode, titled True Crime Presents: Murder at the Grand Canal, airs tonight at 9pm on ITV. This marks the fifth installment in the series, which has gained a significant following among true crime enthusiasts since its launch last year.
The Harrowing Discovery
The documentary delves into the grim discovery made at Little Venice in West London. A member of the public found the remains of 23-year-old Marta Ligman floating in the Grand Union Canal. The area, known for its peaceful houseboats and village-like atmosphere, became the scene of a brutal investigation.
Tomasz Kocik was convicted of murdering Marta Ligman and sentenced to life imprisonment. CCTV footage captured him dragging a suitcase from his home to the canal, but it was not until ten days later that a houseboat occupant discovered her remains.
Viewer Reactions and Series Impact
Previous episodes of True Crime Presents have been described as a brutal watch, with viewers expressing distress on social media. One called it absolutely heartbreaking, while another described it as horrendous to watch.
The series covers a range of real-life offences and notorious offenders, including serial killer Andrew Dawson and the murder of former EastEnders actress Gemma McCluskie in its first series.
Future Episodes
It remains unclear how many episodes will be in the current series. However, it will not air next Tuesday (May 26), as it will be replaced by Soccer Aid: More Than Just a Game at 9pm on ITV.
