A Bolton pub quiz host has hit back at a heckling woman who berated him over his music choices and demanded he play a song for her birthday. Matt Gorton, 32, was hosting his regular quiz at The Dragonfly on October 7 when a drunk woman repeatedly approached him to voice her displeasure.
The woman appeared unhappy that the venue was holding a quiz rather than playing music, interrupting Matt as he filmed promotional content for his events company and bar.
Host's Response
Speaking to Creatorzine.com, Matt said the woman had approached him several times before the confrontation was caught on camera. "She came over at least four times before this interaction.
"I'm used to keeping my cool in these situations. It happens more than you'd think. I find it easier to stay calm and let them make a fool of themselves rather than escalating it into confrontation. I find it funny."
Matt had been recording clips to promote the quiz online when the woman came over to the booth and began heckling him. In the footage, she can be heard questioning his music choices and demanding that he play something she wanted to hear.
Confrontation Caught on Camera
"Why are you putting gay songs on. I don't give a f**k, batty man songs, put a tune on. I don't give a f**k about quiz; I want a song."
Matt hit back by pointing out that the other customers were there to take part in the quiz rather than listen to music. "48 teams do give a f**k; you're the only one that looks like a k**b head." He then responded to the heckling by playing a track that appeared to be aimed directly at the disruptive punter, D**khead by Kate Nash.
Woman Returns
However, the confrontation did not end there. Later in the evening, the woman returned to the booth and told Matt that she was a 'DJ' herself, before asking whether she could put a song on. As she tried to persuade the quizmaster to give her a turn on the music, she repeatedly reminded him that it was her special day, saying, "It's my birthday, come on".
The woman also claimed she was "skint" after spending all her money in Manchester, explaining that she wanted to hear just one song before heading home. But Matt was not prepared to abandon the evening's planned entertainment, reminding her why the crowd had gathered in the first place. "It's quiz night."
The footage quickly gained traction online, racking up more than 413,000 views as viewers watched the awkward exchange unfold.
