The BBC has released a trailer for the third series of Vigil, starring Suranne Jones. The six-part drama will premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One from Sunday, August 30, with two episodes available weekly on iPlayer and airing Sunday and Monday nights at 9pm on BBC One.
Arctic investigation
In the new series, DCI Amy Silva (Jones) and DI Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) travel to a remote Arctic research station after a member of a secret British special forces operation is found dead from a gunshot wound. The investigation soon develops into an international situation as nations compete for influence over the Arctic and its resources amid polar climate change.
The case puts the detectives against a potentially dangerous killer and has serious consequences for their careers and relationship. As events spiral, they must reconsider who they can rely on.
Cast and filming
Dominic Mafham returns as Sir Ian Downing, and Gary Lewis is back as DSU Robertson. New cast members include Jeppe Beck Laursen as Henrick Becken, Chief of Police in Svalbard, Naomi Yang as microbiologist Shen Jia, Tornike Gogrichiani as Russian Colonel Fyodor, Steven Miller and Benjamin Wainwright as Special Boat Service operators, Danusia Samal as Jasmine Kelly, Eric Godon as Mayor Korotayev, and Amy Manson as geologist Lorna McCallister.
Filming took place in Svalbard and Scotland. The series is produced by World Productions in partnership with ITV Studios for the BBC.
