Karen Dunbar cancels Scottish tour over unpaid shows

Comedian Karen Dunbar has cancelled the remaining dates of her Aw Roon the Hooses Scottish tour, saying she has not been paid for her shows. The 55-year-old Chewin' the Fat star told fans on Instagram on November 3 that her remaining 20 shows in 2026 will not go ahead, blaming promoter Breakneck Comedy for not paying her.

Only five of 39 shows paid

Dunbar said she has been paid for just five shows out of the 39 she has performed so far, and that she now plans to take the Aberdeen-based comedy club and event promoter to court. Breakneck Comedy, which was founded by Naz Hussain, organised the tour.

In a video shared on Instagram, Dunbar said: "Hello. I'm gutted to have to tell you this but my show has been cancelled. I've got 20 shows left, they'll not be going ahead.

"The reason is because the promoter hasn't been paying me. I've been doing the shows for the last two months, I've done 39 shows, it would have been 40. But one of the shows was cancelled without me being told. I've been paid for five shows so I can't go on."

Apology to fans and 2027 tour update

Describing the situation as causing her a lot of "stress", Dunbar apologised personally to fans who had bought tickets for the cancelled dates. She said: "Honestly, I've never been in a situation like this in my life. I am so sorry for the people who bought tickets and won't be coming. Hopefully you'll be able to get a refund through the promoter, through where you bought them."

She added: "Anyway, I'm not gonna say anymore than that. There will probably be more stuff coming out because we'll be going to court. What a time but I will see you in other shows. Don't you worry, I will be there."

In a separate Instagram Story, Dunbar confirmed that her 2027 shows in Greenock, Peebles and Shotts will go ahead, as her Doon The Waater tour is being organised by a different promoter, Punchline Promotions. Fans attending any of the cancelled dates are being advised to contact Breakneck Comedy directly for a refund. The Daily Record has contacted Breakneck Comedy for comment.
