The Hairdresser Mysteries: First Look at New BBC Drama

The BBC has unveiled a first look at its upcoming cozy crime drama The Hairdresser Mysteries, which promises to be a nostalgic treat for fans of the genre. The six-part series, set in the 1970s, stars Sally Phillips and former Coronation Street actress Charlotte Jordan.

What Is The Hairdresser Mysteries About?

The show follows hairdresser Lily Petal, played by Sally Phillips, who moves from the city to a quaint village after purchasing a local salon. A synopsis teases: "Everyone tells their hairdresser everything and soon she is at the hub of her new village's secrets and revelations. With her own brand of uncannily highly developed, hairdressing intuitive empathy and understanding, she solves the village mysteries."

Created by acclaimed playwright Jim Cartwright, whose son James recently appeared on Coronation Street as villain Theo Cartwright, the series was filmed in the West Midlands.

Sally Phillips is best known for playing Shazzer in the Bridget Jones films, with additional credits in I'm Alan Partridge, Miranda, and Jam and Jerusalem. Charlotte Jordan rose to fame as barmaid Daisy Midgeley on Coronation Street, debuting in 2020 and leaving in 2025 after storylines including an acid attack and affairs.

Speaking about her exit, Jordan said: "I'm feeling really grateful for my years on the show and the people I've gotten to work with. Kate [Brooks] has been so supportive about me wanting to go back out into the audition circuit and very generous with Daisy's exit story."

The Hairdresser Mysteries is expected to air later this year on BBC.
