Sydney Sweeney has lined up her next major role, just days after her character Cassie Howard's journey concluded with the series finale of Euphoria. The 28-year-old actress, who recently enjoyed a date night with boyfriend Scooter Braun, will star in a film adaptation of Lindsey Anderson Beer's novel Hollow.
A Fresh Take on a Classic Tale
Hollow offers a reimagining of Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, told from the perspective of Katrina Van Tassel, portrayed by Sweeney. According to Deadline, Van Tassel is reimagined as the central figure in a 'dangerous mystery and seductive supernatural love triangle.'
Production Partnership
Sweeney's new production company, Honey Trap, will collaborate with Beer's Lab Brew banner on the project, marking Honey Trap's first film. Beer will both write the screenplay and direct the forthcoming movie. The novel was sold to Penguin Random House's imprint Putnam and is scheduled for publication in fall 2027.
Braun Praises Sweeney's Work
Braun recently praised his girlfriend's 'incredible performance' in Euphoria. The 44-year-old semi-retired music executive confirmed he watched the final season of the HBO drama, which concluded on Sunday. 'I'm biased, I like it. I think there's been an incredible performance by a certain actress,' he said last week on Second Thought with Suzy Weiss and The Free Press.
Provocative Final Season
Viewers of Sam Levinson's series saw Sweeney at her most provocative in season three, as Cassie became an adult content creator. One episode featured the character nearly nude, wrestling with a yellow python. A source previously told Page Six, 'Scooter has absolutely no issue with Sydney's more provocative scenes in Euphoria or any of the work she does as an actress. He fully understands that it's part of her job and respects how dedicated she is to her craft.'
Levinson Defends Creative Choices
Levinson recently defended himself against fan outrage over the sexualized direction of Sweeney's character. According to the Euphoria creator, who wrote and directed all eight episodes of the third and final season, it was Sweeney who pushed for the inclusion of nudity for her character. During an appearance on the New York Times' Popcast, he said he initially considered minimizing nude scenes for Cassie. After co-host Joe Coscarelli referenced a shocking intro featuring Sweeney performing nude fetish scenes, Levinson replied: 'Well, it's funny. When I first wrote it, I thought, "Well, maybe we shoot all of this and we don't have any nudity." I was talking to her, and [I said], "Maybe there's ways to shoot around certain things?" She looked at me, and she was like, "Are you kidding? I'm playing an OnlyFans model. You're telling me you're going to skirt around it?" And I was like, "Yeah, OK, it's a fair point." There's always a discussion of what works best for the character.' Levinson praised Sweeney as a 'totally fearless actor' and 'wonderfully professional.'
