Netflix's new true crime documentary The Crash has become the top release among UK subscribers since last week. The film follows the case of 17-year-old Mackenzie Shirilla, who crashed her car at 100 mph in Strongsville, Ohio, killing her boyfriend Dom and his friend Davion. What initially seemed a tragic accident later proved far more sinister.
Viewers have described the film as 'gut wrenching' and 'the most uncomfortable' true crime documentary they have watched. However, this extraordinary case has been featured in other true crime series before, including Mean Girl Murders, available on HBO Max and Discovery+.
The Mean Girl Murders Episode
The episode is titled 'Under the Influence' and is found in Season 2, Episode 7. According to its description, it explores how 'a tragic accident exposes the dark realities behind the glamorous life of an influencer.' Viewers have called the series 'insane' and 'unreal'.
HBO Max can be accessed through Sky TV, NOW entertainment pass, or as a Prime Video add-on. Another series, Killer Cases, also covers Shirilla's story in Season 4, Episode 12, titled 'Murder on Wheels'. UK viewers can watch this episode free on Channel 4.
