John Travolta made a striking appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, turning heads with a bold new look that included round glasses and a variety of colorful berets. The 72-year-old actor explained that his distinctive style was a deliberate homage to classic film directors from the 1920s through the 1960s.
Travolta's Directorial Debut
Travolta attended the festival to promote his directorial debut, Propeller One-Way Night Coach, which features his 26-year-old daughter, Ella Bleu Travolta. The film, based on Travolta's 1997 children's novel, follows a young aspiring pilot and his mother. A licensed pilot himself, Travolta flew his own plane to the premiere.
Honorary Palme d'Or
During the festival, artistic director Thierry Frémaux surprised Travolta with an honorary Palme d'Or, an award the actor described as being 'beyond the Oscar'. Travolta noted that his unique look would help him distinguish this event from others when looking back at photographs, making the Cannes experience more vivid.
Propeller One-Way Night Coach will stream globally on Apple TV later this month. Travolta wrote, directed, and co-produced the film, marking a new chapter in his career.
