Helen Lederer reads 'Sunflowers' for Tony Slattery

Comedian Helen Lederer, best known for her role in Absolutely Fabulous, has performed a poignant reading of 'Sunflowers' by Harry Baker in memory of the late actor Tony Slattery. The short film, directed by Oliver Parker and shot at Dr Johnson's House in London, is part of a series commemorating Celebration Day, a nationwide movement encouraging Britons to remember loved ones who have shaped their lives.

A tribute to friendship

Reflecting on her bond with Slattery, Lederer remarked: 'We're very lucky in a lifetime to have those few friendships. It's rare.' The film, curated by Allie Esiri, will be published exclusively on The Independent leading up to Celebration Day on Monday 25 May.

Slattery, a beloved actor and comedian known for his quick wit and appearances on shows such as Whose Line Is It Anyway?, passed away in 2025. Lederer's reading serves as a heartfelt homage to their enduring friendship.
