Former EastEnders stars Shona McGarty and Tony Discipline have spoken publicly about their relationship, with McGarty saying she would marry Discipline 'tomorrow'.
Speaking to The Sun, McGarty said: 'I'd marry him tomorrow! In my book of life, I've got all these chapters that are part of my story but now I'm at the chapter where I've found my one.'
Her comments follow Discipline's own declaration earlier this week, when he supported McGarty at the opening of her new West End production, From The Heart. Asked whether he planned to propose, he told The Sun: '100% yeah, absolutely, that's the love of my life. I've known her a long time. We've always had partners, so we never stepped over the line. But in the last year or so our chemistry has really come to light, she's just the best woman in the world.'
Public declarations of love
McGarty also spoke of her happiness, saying: 'I'm really happy, I've honestly found my one, Tony is the ultimate gentleman and he treats me like a queen.'
She continued: 'He makes me laugh, he compliments me all the time and he genuinely wants me to do well, I just adore him, straight away, we've always liked each other.'
Discipline heaped further praise on McGarty, saying: 'Her energy, she's so funny, she makes me laugh every day. I'm a very lucky man, I'm a very lucky man to have her and she's got a beautiful voice hasn't she? I don't want anyone else in my life. That's my woman, that's my soulmate.'
Speaking of his excitement to watch the show, he added: 'I've seen the amount of effort she's put in, I've seen the amount of training she's put in and I know what a talent she is. And listen that's my lady. So, I'm very excited and proud to watch her.'
Couple goes public on social media
Discipline took to Instagram to share a picture of the couple on the red carpet before the opening, along with a shot of McGarty onstage. He captioned the post: 'What an opening show for From the Heart. I am so proud of you My Beautiful Shon. You was simply incredible up there last night. The Love Of My Life'. McGarty replied: 'My Love…'
The couple had previously confirmed their relationship after a period of speculation. McGarty hard-launched them as a couple with a TikTok video in which they took on the accent challenge, captioned: 'accent challenge with my Man…@tony (God it feels so good to say that)'.
The day before, she had uploaded a carousel of images to Instagram of the duo on a couples holiday, captioned: 'The best trip away with Mi Amor @tonydiscipline'. One of the images showed them getting matching tattoos, which appear to be of a popped toaster next to a pineapple and palm tree. Discipline replied in the comments with: 'Te Amo'.
On-screen history
McGarty and Discipline played Whitney Dean and Tyler Moon on EastEnders, characters whose relationship was plagued with lies, deceit and cheating, ultimately proving to be the catalyst for Tyler's departure from the show in 2013.
McGarty remained on the soap for a further 11 years before leaving in 2024, returning for a one-off appearance this year. During their time on the show, Discipline was in a relationship with Jacqueline Jossa, who still plays Lauren Branning on the soap. McGarty, meanwhile, had been in a relationship with Matt Lapinskas, who portrayed Tony's on-screen brother, Anthony Moon.
