Dwayne Johnson unrecognisable as 70-year-old Chicken Man in Lizard Music
Dwayne Johnson transforms into 70-year-old for Lizard Music

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson was seen looking unrecognisable on the set of his upcoming film Lizard Music in Brooklyn, New York, on Tuesday, wearing prosthetics that aged him to 70 years old.

The 54-year-old actor wore a bucket hat, beige jacket, blue shirt and tie, with his face made up to appear wrinkled and aged, complete with a grey beard and grey hair peeking out from under the hat. He carried a paper bag and a slice of pizza, stopping at road crossings and flower stalls so cameras could follow his movements.

Award-Winning Prosthetics Team

The prosthetic makeup artist behind the look is Kazu Hiro, who previously transformed Tom Cruise into an elderly man for Digger and turned Gary Oldman into Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour.

The get-up is Johnson's look for Benny Safdie's new film Lizard Music, in which he plays a 70-year-old character known only as Chicken Man.

Film Details and Cast

The film is based on Daniel Pinkwater's children's book of the same name. In it, a young boy, played by Theo Leber, "stumbled upon strange lizard musicians" and befriends a "peculiar man with an elderly chicken".

Other cast members include Rachel McAdams, Colman Domingo, Jeff Goldblum and David Krumholtz in voice-only roles, as well as Alicia Silverstone and Regina Hall in live-action roles. The film is set for a Christmas Day 2027 release.

Johnson's Transformation

Speaking at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival, Johnson said it took just 45 minutes for director Benny to convince him to take part. He said: "Benny pitched me this after we wrapped The Smashing Machine, and after about 45 minutes, his pitch ended, and I said, 'I am your Chicken Man.' Now what that means is, without giving too much away, the role that I will play is a very whimsical and eccentric 70-something-year-old man called the Chicken Man, and his best friend is a 70-something-year-old chicken."

The WWE star also shared that he shed 30 pounds of muscle for the role. This is not the first time Johnson has undergone a major physical transformation for an acting part. In 2025, he played Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine, wearing eyebrow covers to enhance the brow bone and prosthetics on the nose.

"I'm so excited to get a chance to hopefully transform again like I was able to do in 'Smashing Machine,'" Johnson said of his role in Lizard Music. "[It means] eating less chicken."
