Caroline Harker, known to ITV soap fans as Dr. Caitlin Todd in Emmerdale, has debuted a new role in the Sky drama War, just months after her character's on-screen death. Viewers have been left speechless after spotting the star in a very different part.
Dr Todd's Emmerdale storyline
In the soap, Dr. Todd blackmailed Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) earlier this year over the true parentage of baby Leyla Sugden. The doctor demanded £100,000 from the Woolpack co-owner, leaving Charity desperate. The plot took a dark turn when Todd sexually assaulted Charity at Jacobs Fold.
Charity went to the police but was unable to make charges stick without evidence. Todd returned to the village in August, where she was accidentally killed by Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) in shocking scenes. After learning that the doctor had assaulted her grandmother, Sarah pushed Dr. Todd towards the front door at Jacobs Fold. Todd tripped on a rug and slammed her head against a table corner, dying on the floor from a head wound.
Charity's arrest and new role
Charity soon took the blame, with Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) helping to fabricate evidence. After learning that Charity and Ross Barton (Michael Parr) were Leyla's biological parents, Sarah lied to the police, leading to Charity's arrest and current prison stint. The youngster has since had a change of heart and is now blackmailing Serena and DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) to secure her grandmother's exoneration.
As Charity waits to learn her fate, Caroline Harker has been seen on screen in a very different role. She is currently appearing in the new Sky drama War, alongside Sienna Miller and Dominic West. The legal drama follows a high-stakes, ruthless divorce battle between tech billionaire Morgan Henderson and film star Carla Duval.
Fan reactions
"When ambitious lawyer Johnny Warren (Archie Renaux) is drawn into the case, he enters a ruthless world where every decision could make or break careers, reputations, and lives," the synopsis adds. The eight-episode first season is currently airing on Sky in the UK. A second instalment has already been confirmed, with Marissa Tomei, Kelly Macdonald and David Harewood on board to star.
Caroline plays Harriet Croft in one episode of the series. Harriet is the mother of Bella Croft, played by Honor Swinton Byrne, who is a public relations executive and Johnny Warren's much wealthier girlfriend. Soap fans were quick to share their surprise at seeing Caroline play a less villainous role. One Reddit user wrote: "Todd's in Sky Atlantic's War." Another added: "Oh, amazing! Good to see Caroline Harker playing a goodie this time. Different from what she was!!" A third said: "Yes, I spotted her! Also been rewatching Slow Horses series 3 and both her and Kev were in it." Someone else noted their surprise at seeing the star play a "goodie", while another simply wrote: "Great actress". Emmerdale airs weekday nights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX, while War is airing on Sky Atlantic.
