Amanda Knox UK Screening Cancelled Over Classification

Amanda Knox's UK Documentary Plans Derailed Hours After Arrival

Amanda Knox's controversial visit to the United Kingdom has encountered a significant setback mere hours after her arrival, forcing immediate changes to her promotional schedule for a documentary about the Meredith Kercher murder case.

Last-Minute Cancellation Due to Classification Issue

The 38-year-old American, who was convicted and later acquitted for the 2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher in Italy, landed in London to promote her new documentary Mouth of the Wolf. However, organizers have confirmed that tonight's scheduled public screening has been cancelled because the film lacks the required British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) rating.

Without this official classification, the documentary cannot legally be shown to public audiences in the UK, creating an unexpected obstacle for Knox's promotional tour. The screening was set to take place on April 21, with a second event planned for April 22, both of which had reportedly sold out completely.

Revised Format for London Events

Instead of the planned film screenings, Knox and her husband Christopher Robinson - who directed the documentary - will now participate in stage discussions about the film. These sessions will include audience question-and-answer segments followed by book signing opportunities.

Knox had previously expressed enthusiasm about her first-ever visit to the UK through social media, stating: "I've never been to the UK, but I'm finally going. It feels great knowing that the two documentary screenings I'm hosting are already sold out!"

Documentary Content and Family Criticism

Mouth of the Wolf follows Knox as she returns to Perugia, Italy, where Meredith Kercher was brutally murdered in 2007. The documentary features original songs performed by Knox herself and explores her experiences surrounding the highly publicized trial.

The Kercher family's lawyer, Francesco Maresca, has strongly criticized Knox's continued media projects related to the case. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Maresca stated: "It seems to me and the family that every six months or so Knox makes another media initiative be it a podcast, interview, documentary or film. To be frank, enough is enough."

Maresca further commented: "On the one hand, Amanda says the trial created so much suffering for her but then she tries to have it all – the fame and the money. She continues to make money from it."

Knox's Post-Acquittal Career

Amanda Knox was released from prison in October 2011 after spending nearly four years incarcerated following her arrest in November 2007. She was fully exonerated in 2015 when her conviction was definitively overturned.

Since her acquittal, Knox has maintained a prominent public profile through various projects:

  • Publication of two books: the bestselling memoir Waiting to be Heard and Free: My Search for Meaning in 2025
  • Featured subject in the 2016 Netflix documentary Amanda Knox
  • Creation of the true crime podcast Hard Knox
  • Stand-up comedy tours addressing her overturned conviction
  • Executive producer role for the Hulu drama series Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox

The cancellation of her London screening represents another chapter in the ongoing controversy surrounding Knox's relationship with the media and her continued engagement with the case that made her internationally famous.
