Alex Jones Returns to The One Show After Illness

The One Show welcomed back presenter Alex Jones on Wednesday evening after she was absent due to illness earlier this week. The BBC programme's regular host had been missing from Monday and Tuesday's episodes, with JB Gill stepping in to co-present alongside Roman Kemp.

Return to the Sofa

Jones returned to the iconic sofa on Wednesday, June 3, fronting the show alongside Angellica Bell. Her comeback was announced on Instagram before the broadcast, with Bell exclaiming: "Good news, everyone. Alex is back!"

"Are you feeling better?" Bell asked. "I am," replied Jones. "I am slightly croaky, but we'll get through it," she added with a smile.

During the opening segment, Jones told Bell that she had "nearly recovered" after being unwell, saying: "Glad to be here." The pair then introduced the evening's guests, comedian Dara Ó Briain and country music star Shania Twain.

A Long-Standing Presenter

Jones has been a staple of The One Show for many years, joining the programme in 2010. Over her tenure, she has co-hosted alongside Matt Baker, Ronan Keating, and Roman Kemp. The mother of three, who shares three children with husband Charlie, remains one of the show's most recognisable faces.

Reflecting on her time with the programme last year, Jones said: "I feel incredibly proud to have been on the iconic sofa for all these years. It certainly doesn't feel like 15 years, and it still feels fresh, as the show keeps evolving. I feel like we keep coming back better and better."

She added: "I started as a young girl and I feel like I've grown up with our viewers. They have seen me through all my big life moments like getting engaged and married, to having children. Our viewers are like extended family by now!"

Jones also highlighted the show's enduring appeal: "I think the reason is it really strikes a chord with people because we sit right at the heart of the nation. Our job, essentially, is to reflect what's going on. All the small daily bits and pieces, but also the big events that affect the country."

The One Show airs weeknights at 7pm on BBC One.
