An AI-generated docudrama, 'Dreams of Violets', is set to make history as the first feature-length film of its kind to be accepted into a major film festival. The 75-minute movie will premiere on 10 June at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.
Film Details
Inspired by 47 years of Iranian civilian resistance, the film was directed by Iranian brothers Ash and Pooya Koosha. Produced on a modest budget of $2,000 over three months, AI technology enabled its creation due to the directors' exile and lack of access to Iran. The plot fictionalises a civilian massacre, depicting five Iranians meeting in Tehran before their execution, witnessed by a 10-year-old boy with cerebral palsy.
Industry Impact
The film's acceptance underscores the ongoing debate in Hollywood regarding AI's role in filmmaking. While some embrace AI for driving innovation, others express concerns over its impact on artists' livelihoods. 'Dreams of Violets' is expected to raise eyebrows and spark further discussion on the intersection of technology and creativity.
