Nico Gonzalez hits back at criticism after Carragher's '8-2' jibe
Gonzalez hits back at Carragher's '8-2' jibe after Coventry loss

Nico Gonzalez has insisted there is no need to panic at Newcastle United despite two heavy away defeats at Leeds and Coventry. The midfielder's comments come after Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher claimed the Toon had been "beaten up" and lost "8-2 on aggregate" in their last two Premier League road trips.

Newcastle now face a crunch encounter with Aston Villa on Saturday night at St James' Park. Gonzalez and his team-mates endured a raw reaction from the 3,030 fans who travelled to the East Midlands but has vowed to bounce back.

Gonzalez: 'I don't feel concerned'

Speaking after the heavy defeat, Gonzalez said: "I don't feel concerned. We've done many things right. It's clear what we have to improve. It's easy to work on because we know the things we need to do better. If we improve them I'm sure we'll do a great season."

The Magpies had managed to haul themselves back into the game at 2-1 thanks to Sven Botman's howitzer, but just when they were pushing for an equaliser, defensive frailties surfaced once again, and Coventry drummed up a bumper scoreline.

Defeat leaves Newcastle in bottom half

The defeat leaves United in the bottom half of the table with eight points and some tough fixtures on the horizon. The ex-Man City star said: "We had clear chances to draw. We improved in many things but there are things we have to work on.

"I think it's normal in this league there's always goals in the last minute. Everyone goes forward and it's hard to keep defending as well as the first minutes. The result is not what happened in the game. I've seen so many games where it's 2-1 and you draw."
