Zak Starkey's Heartfelt Confession: His Biggest Regret About The Who Revealed
Zak Starkey's biggest regret about The Who revealed

Zak Starkey, the renowned drummer for The Who and son of Beatles legend Ringo Starr, has shared a poignant revelation about his biggest regret in his musical career.

In a candid interview, Starkey admitted that his deepest remorse stems from not fully appreciating the opportunity to learn from The Who's iconic drummer, Keith Moon, before his untimely death in 1978.

A Missed Opportunity with a Legend

"My biggest regret is not asking Keith Moon more questions when I had the chance," Starkey confessed. "I was just a kid when he passed away, and I didn't realise then how much I would have loved to pick his brain about drumming."

Following in Famous Footsteps

Despite being the son of one of the world's most famous drummers, Starkey developed his own distinctive style that eventually led him to replace Moon in The Who in 1996. He reflected on the unique pressure of filling such legendary shoes: "It's never easy stepping into a role that's so beloved by fans, but I've tried to honour Keith's legacy while bringing my own voice to the music."

The Influence of Two Drumming Giants

Starkey spoke about the contrasting influences of his father Ringo Starr and Keith Moon: "Dad taught me discipline and timing, but Keith was all about energy and chaos. They were completely different approaches, and I've been lucky to learn from both."

The musician also shared how he's come to terms with his regret: "These days, I try to make up for it by really listening to younger drummers when they ask me questions. I remember what it's like to be that eager kid full of curiosity."
