Wayne Sleep, the celebrated ballet dancer and former I'm A Celebrity star, has revealed he has been undergoing treatment for cancer since the summer.
The 78-year-old entertainer, one of Britain's most renowned dancers and choreographers, shared the news with his social media followers, noting that some people had commented he had not looked his usual self recently.
Treatment at the Royal Marsden
Sleep wrote that he had been undergoing treatment for cancer since the summer and that it appeared to be working. He said he was "on the mend" thanks to all at the Royal Marsden and was looking forward to getting back to full strength.
He added that he was in good spirits and feeling positive about the future, thanking everyone for their kindness and concern. Alongside the message, he shared a picture of himself at Kew Gardens in West London, standing by a large bronze sculpture, and referenced the Henry Moore exhibition there.
Previous prostate cancer scare
The announcement comes more than a decade after Sleep, who has also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother and Celebrity Masterchef, had a prostate cancer scare. He told the Mirror in 2016 that a regular health check at age 60 flagged a problem with his prostate.
A blood test measuring prostate specific antigen (PSA) came back higher than normal, leading to an MRI and biopsy. Sleep described the procedure as "like an electric shock," but said everything came back fine and his PSA levels dropped to normal.
In 2017, Sleep took part in ITV's The Real Full Monty, a charity programme in which celebrities perform a choreographed strip dance to raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancer.
