Vogue Williams Opens Up on Divorce Shame and Finding Love with Spencer Matthews
Vogue Williams on divorce shame and Spencer Matthews romance

Irish media personality Vogue Williams has spoken candidly about the intense feelings of embarrassment she experienced following her divorce from former Westlife singer Brian McFadden. The podcaster and TV presenter, now 40, married McFadden in 2012, but the couple separated just three years later, with their divorce being finalised in 2017.

The Pain of a Broken Timeline

In a recent episode on her YouTube channel, 'Vogue Williams - What Does She Even Do?', the mother-of-three admitted she had always envisioned a different life for herself by the age of 30. "I had it in my mind that I would be married with kids when I was 30," she revealed. Instead, she found herself navigating the aftermath of a high-profile split.

Williams described the emotional toll, confessing she was left struggling with anxiety after the break-up. "I felt really embarrassed at the start, of the whole failure of getting divorced," she said. She likened the experience of a painful separation to a bereavement, stating, "They’re almost like a death, you’re so engulfed in them." Her advice for others in a similar situation was to force yourself to socialise, insisting it gradually makes the process easier.

A New Chapter with Spencer Matthews

Following her divorce, Vogue's life took a new turn while filming for the TV show The Jump. It was there she met former Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews. Despite initial resistance from both parties, a romance blossomed.

"Spenny and I tried not to be with each other, we tried," Vogue explained. Having just emerged from a long-term relationship and enjoying being "comfortably single" for the first time, she was reluctant to commit. "I didn’t want to be with anybody but we kept falling back into each other," she said. This persistent connection ultimately convinced her he was "the one".

After a whirlwind romance, Spencer proposed in January 2018 during a trip to see The Lion King in London's West End. The couple then tied the knot five months later in a private ceremony at the Matthews family estate, Glen Affric, in the Scottish Highlands. A second, televised wedding followed, documented in the Channel 4 special Spencer, Vogue and Wedding Two.

Planning a Third Wedding for a 10-Year Milestone

Now happily settled with three children—Theodore, Gigi, and Otto—Vogue has revealed plans for another celebration. Speaking on the My Therapist Ghosted Me podcast with friend Joanne McNally last year, she announced intentions to hold a third wedding to mark their 10th anniversary in 2028.

She clarified that neither of their previous ceremonies felt like her definitive wedding day, describing the Scottish event as small and the TV special as not feeling "real". "We actually want to do a wedding in three years' time when we’re married for 10 years," Vogue said, jokingly adding, "No one will bloody believe it, imagine being married to someone for 10 years."

From the shame of a public divorce to building a bustling family life and planning future celebrations, Vogue Williams's story is one of personal resilience and unexpected happiness.
