American Influencer Hosts £30,000 Self-Wedding for 40th Birthday at Historic English Estate
An American woman has celebrated her 40th birthday in remarkable fashion by spending over £30,000 on a wedding to herself before embarking on a solo 'me-moon' to Paris. Brittany Allyn, a content creator from New York, jetted to Northamptonshire for an extravagant weekend of celebrations at Hinwick House, a Grade I listed aristocratic estate in Wellingborough.
Turning a 'Daunting Time' into Empowerment
Allyn invited 35 of her closest friends and family members to join her for a Saltburn-themed wedding bash, transforming what she described as a 'daunting time' into a moment of optimism as she entered her fourth decade. 'I think last summer I woke up and it was August 7 and I was like "wow, in six months I'm turning 40, I'm on countdown now",' she recalled. 'I was like "OK, I can't stop it, so what if I do something that's going to make me feel better looking forward to 40 instead of being depressed for the next six months?"'
The event served as a tribute to her admiration for Princess Diana and British aristocracy. Allyn worked with esteemed event planner Louise Wright to create what she called an 'empowering moment' of self-love across two meticulously planned days.
Luxurious Details and Celebrity Connections
For her special occasion, Allyn collaborated with renowned stylist to royals and celebrities Olivia Buckingham to select the perfect attire. She wore a Millia London tulle gown for the main event, followed by a second dress by Annie's Ibiza for the first night's dinner.
The celebration featured numerous traditional wedding elements with a personal twist:
- Her brother Ricky, 36, walked her down the stairs to greet guests
- A champagne tower with violinists playing the famous wedding song 'Canon D'
- An elaborate Saltburn-esque dinner complete with martini fountain and truffle fries station
- Millennial hits playing throughout the evening
Allyn even received a 'special heirloom watch' from her aunt Pamela Allyn, 74, serving as her 'something borrowed' for the occasion.
Second Day Activities and Studio 54 Transformation
The following day saw guests participate in shooting activities while dressed in Ralph Lauren attire, enjoying a traditional English picnic. Allyn deliberately rented a 1980s Defender car for photo opportunities, with everyone 'dressed up to the nines in Ralph Lauren gear.'
That evening, the historic hall underwent a dramatic transformation into Studio 54, complete with silver balloons covering the ceiling. Guests enjoyed a massive dance party until the early hours, accompanied by a surprise saxophonist and disco-themed cupcakes.
Empowerment Message and Historical Significance
While acknowledging the unconventional nature of her celebration, Allyn emphasized that the core message was empowerment. 'I didn't want it to be cheesy and I didn't want it to be sad I just wanted it to be empowering,' she explained.
She revealed posting a video online just before walking down the 'aisle' to demonstrate that after 'waiting for someone else to complete me and make memories' she realized she 'could just do it myself.'
Allyn expressed particular pride in the historical significance of her event at the 300-year-old venue. 'I realised I might have just have thrown the first women's empowerment event in the hall's history,' she said. 'That house was 300 years old and I'm the first woman to pay for every single dime for the event myself and probably the first woman that threw an event itself.'
She added: 'It was an empowering moment for all the women before us in terms of generations of women who didn't have rights, finally a woman could throw an event at such a historic venue.'
Paris 'Me-Moon' and Lasting Impact
Following her lavish celebrations, Allyn flew to Paris for what she termed a 'me-moon' – an innovative concept she created herself as an alternative to a traditional honeymoon. She described the trip as the perfect opportunity to 'decompress' after her extravagant birthday festivities.
Reflecting on the experience, Allyn noted that the message extended beyond simply being a bride. 'The message is not just to be a bride, it's more just about how do you celebrate you – you might have all these moments and dreams of wanting a wedding,' she explained.
Describing how she had waited '20 years for all those moments,' she said the event provided the perfect opportunity to spend two days with 'all of my favourite people from different chapters of my life.' Through her £30,000 celebration, Allyn has created what she hopes will inspire other women to celebrate themselves independently and embrace self-love during significant life milestones.
