Paris Fury has hit back at critics of her daughter Venezuela's engagement at the age of 16, calling them 'negative' and 'cynical'. The 36-year-old mother of seven spoke out during an interview for the second series of the family's reality show, At Home with the Furys, which airs on Netflix.
Venezuela, the eldest child of heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury and his wife Paris, became engaged to aspiring boxer Noah Price, who asked Tyson for permission on the show. Within the traveller community, marrying young is a tradition, and Paris compared her daughter's situation to her own: 'I was 17 when I got engaged. Me and Tyson have been together for 20 years, and we couldn't be any happier.'
Paris dismissed social media criticism that Venezuela should 'just live her life' instead of marrying young. 'I'm sorry, but I didn't realise she was going to end the life?' she said. 'She's getting married, they have plans to travel the world, do different things together... If she's happy, he's happy, we're happy, I don't understand it at all.'
Venezuela, who helps her mother care for her six younger siblings at the family's Morecambe mansion, also defended her decision: 'They're trying to put negativity around it, but there really isn't any there. I don't see the problem.'
The new series also features candid moments between Paris and Tyson, including a vow renewal in the South of France and arguments about his return to boxing. Paris noted that she has advised Venezuela that relationships have 'ups and downs', but remains baffled by the backlash.
