Dom Taylor, the winner of Channel 4's Five Star Kitchen: Britain's Next Great Chef in 2023, has died suddenly at the age of 44. His restaurant team confirmed the news on Instagram, stating that he would be 'deeply missed' and his legacy would 'continue to inspire.'
Career and Restaurant
After winning the cooking show, Taylor began a 10-month residency at the luxury London hotel The Langham with his Caribbean restaurant The Good Food Room. The restaurant received rave reviews and later moved to Dalston, Hackney. His restaurant, The Good Front Room, will remain open to honor his legacy.
Tributes Pour In
Fans and colleagues shared tributes. Craig and Shaun McAnuff called him 'a true pioneer,' while journalist Paula Akpan said, 'It was a real honour to interview Dom... I’m so deeply sorry.' Food writer Melissa Thompson sent 'love and strength to the team.' A former colleague noted, 'Dom gave me my first job in the cheffing world and taught me so much.'
Just five weeks before his death, Taylor posted on social media: 'One of the things I love most about The Good Front Room is seeing people come together around a table... That’s what we’ve tried to create here.'
