BBC Radio 2 presenter Trevor Nelson has temporarily stepped away from his afternoon show following a routine check-up that revealed the need for follow-up tests. The 62-year-old broadcaster, who has been with the BBC since 1996, announced the news on Instagram, telling his followers he is taking a break to concentrate on his health.
Cover Presenters Confirmed
Clara Amfo will take over Nelson's 2pm-4pm slot next week, followed by DJ Spoony from July 6. DJ Spoony will move from his Monday night Good Groove show to cover the afternoon slot indefinitely. To facilitate this, Melvin Odoom will take over Spoony's evening programme.
Nelson's Message to Fans
In his Instagram post, Nelson said: "I'm going to be taking a little break from my work commitments.. After a routine check-up, I was advised to have some follow-up tests." He reassured his "Soul Nation party-people" that he is "concentrating on getting better, being back to 100% me and getting back behind the mic and the decks."
Support from Colleagues
Richie Anderson, who covered for Nelson this week, told listeners: "Sending all the love in the world to our Trevor. We've got your back, buddy." BBC Director of Music Lorna Clarke added: "We wish Trevor a very speedy recovery and we all look forward to him returning to his shows whenever he is ready."
