Trevor Nelson Takes Break for Health Issues

BBC Radio 2 star Trevor Nelson has confirmed he is taking a break from work commitments to address health issues. The 62-year-old DJ and broadcaster, who usually hosts weekday afternoons from 2-4pm on Radio 2 and Sunday mornings on BBC Radio 1Xtra, has been absent from his regular slot after undergoing follow-up tests.

Statement on Social Media

In an Instagram post, Nelson addressed his listeners directly: "I wanted to let my followers, radio listeners and all my Soul Nation party-people know that I’m going to be taking a little break from my work commitments. Some of you may already have noticed that I’ve not been on my daily Radio 2 slot this week." He explained that after a routine check-up, he was advised to have further tests. "As a result, I will be taking some further time off. As I’m sure you can appreciate with health issues, it’s important to deal with facts and not speculate. So I’m concentrating on getting better, being back to 100% me and to getting back behind the mic and the decks."

Support from BBC

Lorna Clarke, BBC's director of music, expressed support: "Everyone at BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 1Xtra wishes Trevor a very speedy recovery and we all look forward to him returning to his shows whenever he is ready."

Recent Appearance at Tric Awards

Earlier this week, Nelson attended the Television and Radio Industries Club (Tric) Awards, where he received the Tric special award. Despite his break, listeners can still hear him on a pre-recorded broadcast of The Music Is Black concert from Hackney Empire, airing Sunday night on BBC Radio 2. The event, recorded last month, celebrated black music in Britain with performances by Alison Limerick, Courtney Pine, and Omar.
