ABC's The View panelist Alyssa Farah Griffin is currently in labor, awaiting the arrival of her son with husband Justin Griffin. The 36-year-old television personality was notably absent from Tuesday's broadcast of the show as she prepares for childbirth.
Open Discussion of IVF Struggles
Alyssa Farah Griffin has been remarkably transparent about her fertility journey, particularly her experiences with in vitro fertilization. Speaking on The View: Behind the Table podcast in December 2024, she revealed that she and her husband had attempted to conceive naturally for over a year before pursuing medical intervention.
'I'm going through IVF right now,' Alyssa disclosed during the podcast recording. 'So, my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for about a year and a half, and it wasn't happening naturally. So, we made the decision to move forward with IVF. This is now my second cycle.'
Physical and Emotional Toll
The television personality did not shy away from describing the significant physical and emotional impact of both her fertility treatments and subsequent pregnancy. 'I've been a wreck,' she admitted candidly. 'I've not felt myself. I've been tired. I've been emotional. And you just feel uncomfortable in your body.'
Her pregnancy journey presented considerable challenges, particularly during the initial trimester which she described as particularly difficult. 'I felt terrible, but it's weird because you're not showing [and] nothing feels right,' Alyssa explained. 'I had every side effect imaginable.'
Among the specific symptoms she experienced were dramatically worsened migraines and severe nausea that prevented her from keeping food down. However, her condition improved significantly during the second trimester, which she characterized as 'easy and fun' despite some ongoing discomforts.
Pregnancy Complications and Recovery
Even during the more manageable second trimester, Alyssa faced additional health setbacks. In December, she was forced to take time away from her co-hosting duties on The View after contracting a stomach virus while six and a half months pregnant.
'It's no fun being sick while 6 and a half months pregnant,' she remarked at the time, while offering practical advice to her followers about illness prevention during pregnancy.
Personal Life and Family
Alyssa Farah Griffin and Justin Griffin exchanged vows in Florida in 2021 following a year-long engagement. The couple, who confirmed the pregnancy in October, are already parents to a Havanese dog named Herbie. Throughout her pregnancy, Alyssa maintained her commitment to sharing both the triumphs and tribulations of her journey to motherhood, creating a dialogue about fertility challenges that resonates with many viewers.
