During Take That's Circus Tour at London Stadium, the temperature soared to 35C, causing fans to faint and ambulance crews to repeatedly rush through the crowd. Despite the oppressive conditions, the concert was marked by extraordinary kindness among attendees.
Fans Help Each Other in Sweltering Heat
Lynn Carratt, attending with her 78-year-old mother Marion, who uses a crutch, described how her mother struggled to reach their seats due to the heat and stairs. Fellow fans immediately offered bottles of water, and a group with spare seats lower down insisted the pair take them, allowing Marion to enjoy the show without the arduous climb. Carratt noted that this generosity restored her faith in people.
Concert Atmosphere: Family and Presence
Despite the heat, there was no frustration or pushing. Attendees were present, singing every word, dancing with strangers, and soaking up the atmosphere. The concert felt like a family occasion, with mothers introducing daughters to the band, grandparents bringing grandchildren, and lifelong friends reliving their youth. Even the long queues for the ladies' toilets were filled with laughter and chatter.
Spectacular Production
The Circus Tour, originally staged in 2009, revisits the band's beloved era with an even grander scale. The production featured giant circus-inspired visuals, moving stages, dazzling lighting, pyrotechnics, acrobats, and a huge mechanical elephant. Mark Owen and Howard Donald rode unicycles across the stage, while Gary Barlow maintained relentless energy for over two hours, despite being visibly drenched in sweat by the end of the opening song, Greatest Day.
Personal Reflection
Carratt reflected on her journey with Take That, from being a teenage fan with posters on her bedroom walls to interviewing Gary Barlow and working with him on the launch of his Osiris eyewear collection. She described Barlow as warm, funny, and down to earth, noting that his rider consisted only of tea. Her daughter Mia, born in 2022, shares Barlow's birthday, 20 January, exactly 51 years apart.
Take That's Enduring Appeal
On the hottest day of the year, with fans fainting and ambulance crews racing through the stands, Take That proved why they have lasted for more than three decades. The kindness shown to Carratt's mother and the sense of community among fans made the concert truly unforgettable.
