Schumacher's Wife Corinna to Speak in New Netflix Documentary

Corinna Schumacher, the wife of Formula One legend Michael Schumacher, is set to make a rare television appearance in a new documentary about the seven-time world champion. The documentary, titled 'Schumacher '94 – The Birth of a Legend', will be released globally on Netflix on October 2.

Rare Insight Into Relationship

Corinna, who married Schumacher in 1995, is expected to provide unique insights into her relationship with her husband and discuss their enduring love story. The documentary focuses on the 1994 F1 season, which saw Schumacher win the first of his seven World Championship titles at the age of 25, sparking 'Schumi Mania' across Germany.

That season was also marked by tragedy, with the deaths of three-time world champion Ayrton Senna and Austrian rookie Roland Ratzenberger at the San Marino Grand Prix, prompting significant safety improvements in the sport. The documentary will also address allegations of cheating and manipulation leveled against Schumacher's Benetton team during the season.

Contributors and Privacy

Several key figures from Schumacher's life and the F1 world have contributed to the documentary, including former Benetton chief Flavio Briatore, ex-F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone, retired driver David Coulthard, and the German star's former manager Willi Weber.

Since Schumacher's life-changing skiing accident in December 2013, where he fell and hit his head on a rock in the French Alps, his privacy has been fiercely protected by Corinna. Only a small circle of trusted family members and friends are allowed to visit him and know the intimate details of his condition. The seven-time world champion now requires round-the-clock medical care.

Previous Statements and Update Possibility

In a previous Netflix documentary about Schumacher's life, released in 2021, Corinna said her husband was "different, but here." Their son Mick added that he and Schumacher "understand each other now in a different way."

Last year, leading F1 reporter Felix Gorner, who is close to the Schumacher family, revealed that the seven-time world champion can no longer communicate verbally. "The situation is very sad," Gorner said in March. "He needs constant care and is completely dependent on his caregivers. And he can no longer express himself verbally." He added that currently, a maximum of 20 people can approach Schumacher, and that the family's strict protection of his privacy is "the right strategy" acting in his best interests.
