R&B singer Soriah Barry, 27, died in a head-on collision with a double-decker bus in London just days before a 'life-changing' meeting with Apple Music, her mother has revealed. The crash occurred on February 8, 2024, after she dropped off a friend.
Barry was rushed to hospital but died from her injuries. Her mother, Saphiatu, said the singer had a meeting scheduled with Apple Music, hoping the platform would release her music. Aunt Malika Barry described her as 'the full package' and said everything was going well for her career.
CCTV footage showed Barry's vehicle swerving towards a stationary bus in Hackney. Witnesses reported a loud bang and smoke. The bus driver believed she had crossed the carriageway to park ahead. A witness who rushed to help said Barry replied 'No, I'm not' when asked if she was okay.
Barry suffered cardiac arrest and it took two hours to reach hospital due to rush hour traffic. Some bystanders filmed her and uploaded footage to TikTok. Her cause of death was internal bleeding and severe liver damage. The inquest found she was not wearing a seatbelt but could not determine why the crash occurred.
Her family believe she was distracted and accidentally accelerated instead of braking. Apple Music has since offered to upload her songs in her memory.
