The Princess of Wales once confessed that knitting a jumper for her eldest child, Prince George, proved beyond her, despite her well-known creative talents.
Kate, who is often praised for her artistic abilities and photography, revealed she first attempted knitting in 2013 while pregnant with George, hoping to make hand-knitted garments for her newborn.
Confession in Glasgow
According to Hello! magazine, during a visit to Glasgow, Kate told royal fans: "I've been trying to knit and I'm really bad. I should be asking for tips!"
Years later, in 2020, while visiting Bradford, she met grandmothers from Older Yet Wiser, an organisation supporting grandparents, and disclosed her failed attempt at creating a jumper for George.
Failed Jumper Project
Kate told the group: "I tried knitting when I first had George. I tried to knit him a very special jumper, but I got halfway down and it splattered. It's such an amazing skill."
Despite this setback, the Princess of Wales has continued to embrace creative activities during royal engagements, including joining children for messy play at a children's hospice last October.
Early Years Research
Kate has also commissioned a new research project as part of her early years work, exploring how nature can support social and emotional development in babies and young children.
In a video launching the project, she said: "New scientific research increasingly shows just how important nature is for our psychological and physiological wellbeing."
The research will bring together evidence, expertise and practical experience from around the UK and the world to understand how nature-rich environments can help nurture confident, curious, creative and emotionally healthy children.
