Prime Video has quietly cancelled the romantic drama It's Not Like That after just one season, leaving fans furious over the unresolved cliffhanger. The eight-episode series, which debuted in early 2026, followed a newly-divorced woman and a recently widowed man as they explored a potential romantic future. According to Deadline, the show has been shelved despite strong reviews and apparent popularity.
Surprising Cancellation Despite Strong Performance
Deadline reported that the cancellation is somewhat surprising given the show's critical acclaim. It's Not Like That holds a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score. While Prime Video has not released viewership numbers, the streaming service's first weekly Top 10 rankings, published June 3, placed the series at No. 9 on the global list. The show aired alongside major hits like Clarkson's Farm.
The Mirror has reached out to Prime Video for clarification on the cancellation, which has sparked outrage among devoted fans.
Fan Outrage on Social Media
On X (formerly Twitter), one viewer raged: "@PrimeVideo what is this you are doing, cancelling #ItsNotLikeThat?! Great TV. Great writing! Great talent! We have loved this. Why are you doing this? ! Bring it back! Bring it back!" On Reddit, another fan commented: "I actually found it charming and was hoping for more. It was extremely corny, though."
The series finale saw recently widowed minister Malcolm (Scott Foley) finally confessing his feelings for Lori (Erinn Hayes), but it was revealed to be a fantasy inside his head. Viewers will never know whether Malcolm ultimately shared his true emotions.
Critical Acclaim and Emotional Connection
Before the cancellation, one fan wrote on IMDb: "I love everything about this show, and will be absolutely devastated if it's not renewed! It was a beautiful ride through faith, family, friendship, love, relationships." Another viewer noted: "It's not overly dramatised and doesn't give you that feeling that the producers are trying too hard for ratings." They added: "Character development met with healthy emotional moments had me reflecting on my own life and really connecting with the families and their circumstances. It was a breath of fresh air in the sense that families of all ages could watch this together without having any inappropriate content to worry about."
A final fan pleaded: "Please renew this! This show is so raw and emotional and everything I didn't know that I needed right now. I cried, I laughed, I felt all the emotions with these 2 families."
