Piers Morgan has publicly praised King Charles for his "very powerful speech" during a memorial event marking the 60th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster in Wales, while continuing his criticism of Prince Harry.
Retweeting a clip of the monarch's visit to Aberfan on Thursday, 22 October, the presenter wrote on X: "Very powerful speech by His Majesty. This is the Royal Family at their best - giving comfort and support to the British people in the darkest of times."
Criticism of Prince Harry's Interview
Morgan's comments came hours after he berated Prince Harry on live television for overshadowing the King's recent engagements with his GQ interview. Appearing on Fox and Friends in the US on Wednesday, 21 October, the Uncensored host criticised Harry's highly publicised conversation with the publication, in which Harry voiced hopes for reconciliation with both his father, Charles, and his brother, Prince William.
The pre-recorded interview, released on Tuesday, 20 October, has sparked backlash for coinciding with King Charles's welcoming of the Sultan of Oman to Windsor for an important state visit.
Claims of Overshadowing Royal Duties
Morgan argued that Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have been overshadowing real royal engagements with their return to the UK, saying: "Let's not forget, these two [Prince Harry and Meghan Markle], all the work that they want to do in a good way, is to line their own pockets."
He added: "They've made themselves very wealthy by trashing their family. The family, I can tell you, down to Prince William and others, they're just not having this."
Morgan also referenced the royal family's ongoing engagements, stating: "They are out there, day in and day out [carrying out engagements]. Right this morning, they're over in Aberfan in Wales, where there's an incredibly moving ceremony for one of the worst natural disasters in the history of my country."
Further Social Media Attacks
The broadcaster, a long-time vocal critic of the Sussexes, also slammed Harry's GQ interview on social media, tweeting on Tuesday afternoon: "Flame-thrower wants to make peace with the people whose houses he torched and is baffled they're not interested…"
He later added that Harry and Meghan had returned to the UK in August because "Hollywood's had enough of them, so they're running out of cash". Morgan also claimed that "the one word he's never said is sorry", suggesting that true reconciliation would require Prince Harry and Meghan Markle "on bended knee grovelling for an apology".
