Oprah Winfrey has shared a new social media photo showcasing her dramatic weight loss, after admitting to using a GLP-1 agonist drug such as Ozempic. The 71-year-old talk show icon, who had previously criticised such medications as an 'easy way out', now describes them as a 'relief' and a 'gift'.
In the Instagram post, Winfrey beams in her garden wearing a cerise silk blouse and black leather trousers. She promoted Elizabeth Gilbert's memoir 'All the Way to the River' but disabled comments, preventing responses to the image.
Winfrey had long denied using weight-loss drugs despite years of yo-yo dieting. However, in December 2023, she told People magazine: 'I now use it as I feel I need it, as a tool to manage not yo-yoing.' She added: 'The fact that there's a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift.'
On 'The Oprah Podcast', she confirmed taking a GLP-1 agonist, which mimics the hormone GLP-1 to help people feel full and slow stomach emptying. She did not specify the brand, but Ozempic is a common GLP-1 agonist approved for Type 2 diabetes, with weight loss as a side effect.
