Nicole Kidman's Daughter, 17, Breaks Major Met Gala Age Rule at Debut
Nicole Kidman's Daughter Breaks Met Gala Age Rule

Nicole Kidman's 17-year-old daughter, Sunday Rose, made her Met Gala debut on Monday as the legendary actress co-chaired the event, but she broke a major rule. The event, hosted by Condé Nast and organized by Dame Anna Wintour, has a strict age limit of 18 and above, a policy that was previously confirmed by organizers. Sunday Rose was not the only celebrity offspring to flout the rules; Beyoncé, who also co-chaired the event, brought her 14-year-old daughter Blue Ivy to the red carpet for the first time.

Met Gala Age Rule Breached

It was previously reported that the Met Gala has a strict age limit for attendance. In 2018, Maddie Ziegler, then aged 15, said she was 'not old enough' to attend. Organizers confirmed that the event is strictly 18-plus, stating, 'It's not an appropriate event for people under 18.' Despite this, both Nicole Kidman and Beyoncé brought their underage daughters to the event.

Beyoncé and Blue Ivy's Appearance

Beyoncé, joined by her husband Jay-Z, invited her 14-year-old daughter Blue Ivy to join her on the red carpet for the first time. Holding back tears, the singer said it was 'surreal' for Blue to join her. 'She looks so beautiful. It's incredible to be able to share with her; I think she looks so incredible,' said the star. Beyoncé wore a crystal skeleton gown with matching silver accessories, while Blue Ivy wore a white Balenciaga gown with a voluminous skirt and a matching unzipped jacket.

Sunday Rose's Met Gala Debut

For her Met debut, Sunday Rose turned heads in a custom Dior three-dimensional gown adorned with pink and lavender floral embellishments. The budding model completed her look with matching pink earrings, her long hair cascading freely to her hips. Nicole Kidman opted for a red sequined gown from Chanel, accessorized with Chanel jewelry and an Omega timepiece. Speaking to Vogue, Nicole said she wanted to wear something red to 'embrace the way in which red has been used in art,' including the 'strong symbol of love, passionate love, vitality and motherhood.' Sunday described her outfit as symbolizing 'something blooming,' adding that it was her first Met Gala. Despite the late night, Sunday is back in the classroom today at 8am.

Nicole Kidman's Role as Co-Chair

This was the third time Nicole served as co-chair, her first being in 2003 for the theme 'Goddess: The Classical Mode,' before returning two years later for 'The House of Chanel' exhibition. This year's Met Gala theme was 'Costume Art,' with the dress code 'Fashion Is Art,' asking attendees to 'illuminate the indivisible connection between clothing and the body' and the 'complex interplay between artistic representations of the body and fashion as an embodied art form.'

Sunday Rose's Inspiration

Speaking to Elle Australia, Sunday said of her mother's influence: 'I definitely gained a lot of interest from those experiences and especially being privileged enough to experience them at a young age. My mum is someone who has always been so creative and my biggest inspiration in life. She's a key part of everything I do.' Nicole told Las Culturistas about her daughter joining her: 'This is, I think it's the third time I've co-chaired, but to do it now? I'm so, so happy, and my daughter Sunday will be coming. And she loves fashion. She's actually just walked the Dior show. Yeah, she's flying back from Paris now.'
