Influencer and model Nara Smith, 24, has shared the devastating news that her two-year-old daughter, Whimsy Lou, has been diagnosed with cancer. The content creator, who has 4.7 million Instagram followers, posted an emotional video on Wednesday night revealing the diagnosis, which she and her husband, fellow model Lucky Blue Smith, 28, learned late last year.
Details of the Diagnosis
In the video, Nara explained that the family took Whimsy to the hospital after seeing something suspicious. After evaluation, including X-rays, ultrasounds, and a biopsy, the couple was immediately called to receive the news. Nara recalled the moment: "I just remember him going really quiet and calm and my heart dropped in that moment. I don't know whether it was my gut telling me something or just a mom's intuition, but the first thing that I felt was she has cancer." She did not specify the type of cancer. Doctors informed them that Whimsy would need to start chemotherapy treatments immediately.
Impact on Family Life
Nara, who is also mother to Rumble Honey, five, Slim Easy, four, and Fawnie Golden, 10 months, described the challenge of balancing hospital visits, caring for her other children, and working. "A lot of you have probably realised that I've been posting a little less and this is the reason why. Having found all of this out and navigating this while postpartum, also loving and caring for our other kids at home, also being in the hospital with Whimsy a lot and balancing work on top of that has been really challenging," she said.
Hope to Help Others
Nara expressed hope that sharing her story could help others. "Throughout all of this I've been on a plethora of forums, social media, also talked to parents and family in the hospital, and all of that combined really brought me a lot of comfort and alleviated the feeling of loneliness for me. We wanted to share this to hopefully bring someone else that comfort or even incentivise you to go get something checked out that you've been avoiding," she added.
Background on the Couple
Nara and Lucky Blue met on social media in 2019 after he messaged her on Instagram. They exchanged numbers and spoke nightly before meeting in person at Milan Fashion Week. The couple now has four children together.
