National Portrait Gallery to display picture of Luke Littler

Luke Littler, the British darts champion, is set to feature in a new display at the National Portrait Gallery in London. The photograph of the 19-year-old, who also stars in the Netflix show Beat Luke Littler, will be shown for free from Thursday, positioned outside the Winston Taylor Photo Portrait Prize exhibition, which opens tomorrow.

The Portrait and Its Context

The image, captured by British photographer Hollie Fernando, shows Littler in a domestic setting. The caption describes him seated on a sofa in casual sportswear, with his French bulldog between his feet, appearing relaxed and far removed from the intensity of professional competition.

Fernando was awarded the Winston Taylor Photographic Commission in 2025 to create the portrait, which offers a contrast to Littler's confident public persona and reveals a quieter side to the young sporting talent.

Littler's Achievements

Nicknamed The Nuke, Littler became the youngest ever PDC World Darts Champion in 2025 at age 17, successfully defending his title in 2026. He has won 14 PDC major singles titles, ranking him third in the all-time list of darts players, and holds a total of 30 PDC titles.

His Netflix show recently featured a one-off leg where he was beaten by fellow darts player Fallon Sherrock, who claimed a £501,000 prize. Littler has also appeared on the gameshow Bullseye on two occasions.

Recognition and Legacy

Littler was named BBC Young Sports Personality Of The Year in 2024 and finished as runner-up in that year's main competition to Olympian Keely Hodgkinson.

The Warrington-born player joins a list of figures whose pictures have been displayed at the central London venue in recent years, including singers Charli XCX, Harry Styles, Lily Allen, Sir Elton John, Noel Gallagher, and Sam Smith.
