Miranda Hart says Lyme disease makes Strictly a challenge, hints at 60th birthday debut

Comedian Miranda Hart has revealed that her ongoing battle with Lyme disease would make participating in Strictly Come Dancing a challenge. The 52-year-old star, whose co-star Sarah Hadland competed on the show last year, addressed speculation about a potential appearance in a new Instagram video.

Hart, who concluded filming on her self-titled BBC show in 2015 while battling undiagnosed Lyme disease, which later developed into myalgic encephalomyelitis (chronic fatigue syndrome), said she is taking recovery “one day at a time.” She noted that the demanding training and practice sessions for Strictly would be unmanageable at present.

In typical Miranda fashion, she teased followers about the Strictly speculation, joking: “No I'm joking, that was a joke.. or was that a double bluff, no really it was a joke... I shouldn't have said that... what I have done?” She added: “No, the menopausal mounds of this body is not ready for any sort of dance floor let alone one on national television - no one is ready for that.”

However, Hart hasn't dismissed the idea entirely, hinting she might give it a whirl when she turns 60. “I'll do it when I'm 60, that's what I've decided,” she said. The comedian also shared that she is “still completely everyday amazed and grateful” that her book about living with Lyme disease has helped others.

Hart's update comes a year after she revealed her diagnosis and secret marriage in the book. She confirmed that she will share more news on Thursday, calling the video “the pre-news news.”
