Mike Tyson's son Miguel recalls tragic moment before sister's death

Mike Tyson's son Miguel has recalled finding his younger sister Exodus after a tragic treadmill accident that led to her death in 2009. Miguel was seven when he found his four-year-old sister at the family's home in Phoenix. Police reported that Exodus had become entangled in a cord hanging beneath the treadmill's console.

She was taken to hospital and placed on life support, but died the following day. Reflecting on the tragedy in the new Netflix documentary Tyson, Miguel said: "It was one of the first memories I actually have. I was seven, she was four.

"That day, me and Exodus, we got up early. We are hanging out together, drawing." He recalled how he had told his sister to go and play in another room, and when his mum asked him to call Exodus for breakfast an hour or so later, he discovered her in horrific circumstances.

Miguel's recollection

"I just walk into the room right next door… and I look to my right, and I just see the treadmill cord and my sister just hanging from it. I just went calmly to the next room and just told my mom, 'Mum, Exodus is dead'," he recalled.

His father, the former heavyweight boxing champion, was in Las Vegas at the time of the incident. Asked in the documentary how he managed to carry on after losing his daughter, he replied: "I don't know. Still working on that", reports the Mirror.

Documentary and family

The four-part series examines Tyson's life, from his boxing triumphs and controversies to his family relationships and personal losses. Several of his children appear, including Miguel, who also speaks about his relationship with his father while growing up.

"I think he's just so broken from his past that he is probably beyond fixing. But I know inside there, there's a broken guy just trying to be a good father," Miguel said. Miguel was born in April 2002 to Tyson and his former partner, Sol Xochitl, and was raised in Phoenix with his mother. After university, he pursued a career as a travel photographer. He now works with his father as director of the Tyson Foundation, which supports "underserved communities".

Tyson's children

Tyson is the father of seven children and has been married three times. He was married to Robin Givens from 1988 to 1989 and Monica Turner from 1997 to 2003. He married his current wife, Lakiha Spicer, in 2009. Alongside Miguel and Exodus, his children are Miki, Ramsey, Amir, Milan and Morocco.

Miki was born in July 1990 to Tyson and his former girlfriend, Kimberly Scarborough. She has focused on music in recent years and also appears in the documentary.

Ramsey was born in February 1996 to Tyson and Monica Turner. They are a filmmaker and previously said they were not "super close" to their father when discussing their transmasculine and non-binary identity.

Amir, Tyson's second child with Monica Turner, was born in August 1997. He played baseball at university before establishing his fashion brand, Debonair Attire, and moving into sports. Based in Florida, he signed with Misfits Boxing in 2026, following in his father's footsteps.

Milan was born in December 2008 to Tyson and Lakiha Spicer. She is a keen tennis player who has shared the court with figures including Patrick Mouratoglou, Serena Williams' former coach.

Tyson's youngest child, Morocco, was born in January 2011 to him and Lakiha. He took up tennis at an early age and has also shown an interest in boxing.
