Michael Douglas has said he hopes his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, "understands" as he has opened up about cheating on his first wife with Romancing the Stone co-star Kathleen Turner.
The pair starred together in the 1983 film and had a brief affair during his marriage to Diandra Luker in 1977, before he eventually settled down with Catherine in 1999.
Michael, 82, revealed that his wife of 26 years received a copy of his autobiography, One Helluva Ride, only shortly before it hit bookstores. But he is hopeful she won't be upset to hear the story of his previous affairs, as he told The Sun: "This was all, as I say, BC, before Catherine. We have a 25-year age difference. So I don’t feel bad. I think she understands."
Affair revelation in autobiography
The Sun reports that in his book, Michael said of his affair: "I must have asked Diandra to get married about 30 days after I knew her. And so, needless to say, we had a lot of ground to cover. She was a beautiful lady. I obviously was infatuated with her, but she never knew anything about Hollywood, and I was already into my alcohol and drug phase.
"She knew nothing about any of that. So we had our struggles. For instance the realisation that I had an affair with Kathleen Turner on Romancing the Stone. We were separated, Diandra and I at the time, but still that happened."
Life with Catherine Zeta-Jones
He met Catherine, with whom he made the Oscar-winning movie Traffic, and they married in November 2000 and have two children, Dylan, 26, and Carys, 23.
His outlook on life dramatically changed when he was diagnosed with stage four throat cancer in 2010.
Initially, doctors missed the potentially fatal condition, so he underwent seven weeks of radiation and chemotherapy.
He said: "My career was no longer the most important thing in my life. My family was the people closest to me. And that’s continued after the 16 years since I first had the cancer."
