Meghan Markle's Disappointment Over Missed Engagements
Meghan Markle experienced a deep sense of disappointment after being unable to join her husband, Prince Harry, in public events during their recent visit to the United Kingdom. A source close to the Duchess of Sussex told People magazine that she felt a 'lot of sadness' over not being able to stand by Harry's side during the planned engagements. The 44-year-old had originally intended to participate in a one-year-to-go celebration for the Invictus Games at Birmingham's NEC, but security concerns forced her to withdraw.
According to insiders, Meghan remains 'very supportive' of Harry as he navigates ongoing tensions with his father, King Charles, and brother, Prince William. Another source noted that when it comes to family matters, Meghan 'always lets him lead.' The couple's visit, which took place from July 7 to July 10, was centered around Harry's solo public appearance in Birmingham to mark the countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games.
Security Restrictions Prevent Public Appearances
The Sussexes' movements were heavily restricted by RAVEC, the UK Government body that previously stripped the couple of their automatic, taxpayer-funded police protection. As a result, Harry deemed it unsafe for his family to appear publicly in Birmingham. Consequently, Meghan, along with their children Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, skipped all public events during the trip.
Instead, the family traveled to Highgrove House in Gloucestershire for a private reunion with King Charles and Queen Camilla. They also made a personal visit to Princess Diana's resting place at Althorp House. Buckingham Palace later confirmed the meeting, describing it as a 'private family occasion' and stating that no official photos or press releases would be issued.
Meghan's First Public Statement After the Visit
On July 15, Meghan spoke out for the first time since the family reunion, following the announcement that her Netflix series, 'With Love, Meghan,' had received its first Daytime Emmy nomination. The show, which was released in 2025, earned a nomination in the Outstanding Lifestyle Series category.
Taking to her personal Instagram account, Meghan praised her team, sharing the program's promotional poster with a caption that read: 'A huge congratulations to the amazing crew, producers, and team who worked on ‘With Love, Meghan’ on @netflix. We are nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lifestyle Series!'
The lifestyle and cooking series features Meghan sharing tips on hosting, gardening, and cooking alongside celebrity guests such as Mindy Kaling and Chrissy Teigen. To protect her family's privacy, the show was not filmed at her home but rather at a rented £6 million rustic farmhouse near Montecito, California.
