Maya Jama donates £83,500 to Action for Children

Maya Jama has donated £83,500 to Action for Children, matching the prize money she missed out on after being banished from the BBC reality show Celebrity Traitors.

The 32-year-old revealed on Saturday that she had made the donation to the charity, despite being voted out during Friday night's dramatic final.

Viewers saw Jama narrowly miss out on the £83,000 prize money after her fellow traitor King Kenny voted against her at the final roundtable, helping to secure her elimination.

Charity's response

In a post to X, the Love Island presenter wrote: "Just donated what I would have won for my chosen charity @ActnForChildren. Amazing cause."

Action for Children works to help and support vulnerable children with issues such as poverty, abuse and finding a foster home.

The charity confirmed Jama had donated £83,500.

Fundraising director's thanks

Katherine Woods, director of fundraising at Action for Children, said: "We're absolutely thrilled to receive such a generous donation from Maya Jama.

"She certainly held her nerve until the very end and proved herself to be the star of the show.

"With four million children in the UK currently living in poverty, Maya's own experiences of food insecurity growing up make this incredibly generous support even more meaningful.

"Every day, our frontline workers see the impact of families struggling to make ends meet, from parents fleeing domestic abuse to those facing impossible choices about how to provide for their children as the cost-of-living crisis continues to rise.

"Generous donations like Maya's mean we can be there for families when they need us most, providing practical and emotional support so children across the UK can have the safe and happy childhood they deserve. Thank you, Maya."

Final outcome

Jama was the only original traitor left in the game and had been working alongside King Kenny, who also missed out on winning after the faithfuls turned against him.

The episode concluded with actor Sebastian Croft and comedian Romesh Ranganathan emerging victorious as the final two contestants.

Heartstopper star Croft is donating his £41,500 share to the charity Choose Love, while Ranganathan is giving his to the Refugee Council.
