Matt Evers' Awkward Live TV Blunder: 'Getting Hard' Slip

Former Dancing on Ice professional Matt Evers left viewers gobsmacked after an awkward slip of the tongue on live television in the United States. The 50-year-old skater, now a presenter on the Home Shopping Network, mistakenly said 'getting hard' instead of 'getting old' while promoting hearing aids.

What Happened on Live TV

During his appearance on the teleshopping network, Evers was extolling the benefits of hearing aids when he stumbled over his words. 'Getting hard is…' he began, before quickly correcting himself: 'Sorry, getting old is hard enough.' The moment passed with little comment on the show itself, but Evers later took to Instagram to address the blunder.

Evers' Response on Instagram

A week after the incident aired, Evers shared a clip of the moment on Instagram, where he has more than 100,000 followers. The video was set to the song 'Something Stupid' and included a shot of him with his hand over his mouth. In the caption, he wrote: 'I've turned in my note for resignation. I'm sorry to all of you.'

Fans responded with humor in the comments. Geraldine joked: 'I hope you're ok at this hard… I mean difficult time.' Rachel said she was 'screaming' with laughter, while Victoria commented: 'OMG. Thanks for the belly laugh – it was needed!' Others noted that the blooper was mild compared to other mishaps on the shopping channel over the years.

Evers' Career on Dancing on Ice

Evers began his television presenting career after leaving his role as a professional skater on Dancing on Ice in 2023, following 17 years on the show. He made history in 2020 as part of the first same-sex partnership on the program, skating with Ian 'H' Watkins from Steps. Evers also performed the show's debut 'headbanger' move with his first partner, Bonnie Langford.

When he joined in 2006, Evers became the longest-serving professional skater on the show. He announced his exit in an emotional video shared with fans. Since then, Dancing on Ice has been effectively axed; ITV confirmed there are currently no plans for the competition to return after its 17th season, which saw Coronation Street actor Sam Ashton win. The broadcaster stated: 'We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the cast and crew who have worked on the show since 2006, and over the previous 17 series, for all of their hard work both on and off the ice.'
